How to Pray

Here’s one method that can help you in your time of prayer.

It’s an acronym called A.C.T.S.

ADORATION

  • Begin your prayer time by praising the LORD for who He is and what He has done.  Declare His attributes by saying statements like, “You are the God who created me; You bring order out of chaos; You are full of truth and grace; You are powerful and mighty; You know my voice and hear my prayers; You know all things, including everything about me.”  Simply adore Him (Psalm 66).

 CONFESSION

  • Now agree with God that you are a sinner in need of grace and forgiveness.  It’s time to share with God your sin, your shortcomings.  Ask Him to forgive you and cleanse you from unrighteousness (1 John 1:8-9).  Ask God to purify your thoughts and motives.  Ask Him to restore a pure heart in the name of Jesus.

 THANKSGIVING

  • Spend some time simply being thankful (Psalm 100:4-5).  Give Almighty God credit for all He has done for you.  Be specific.  What needs has God recently met in your life?  Begin the habit of being thankful to God throughout the day.  Being thankful to God should encourage you and remind you of God’s goodness and favor on your life.

 SUPPLICATION

  • Finally, bring your specific requests to God.  Remember, our Heavenly Father wants to hear from you and give you good gifts (Philippians 4:6; Matthew 7:11).
